November 16, 2015 || Mallika Singhania

Malini Agarwalla is one of the most prominent accessory designers in India. Her iconic clutches, necklaces, and belts are sported by celebrities across the globe, and are signature pieces that stand out- whether they are on the red carpet or at a cocktail party.

Recently foraying into clothing, Malini has never been afraid to break barriers or take on new challenges. Elegance, tradition, colour and high-quality finishing are her trademarks; which is why her pieces truly belong in every woman's heirloom box.

We get talking to this amazing woman, who is a visionary, a pioneer, and an esteemed designer who continues to make waves in the fashion industry.

Mallika: What defines Malaga's style sensibility?

Malini:  Essentially, our brand is extremely feminine, classic, and unapologetically glamorous.

MallikaWhat advice would you give to brides?

Malini: The clothes and accessories have to be an extension of your persona. You must make sure that you feel comfortable wearing them; only then will you look fabulous in them. Yes, trends are important but follow them only if they suit you.

MallikaWho is your style icon?

Malini: Audrey Hepburn from the earlier times, and Charleze Theron from the present.

MallikaWhat is your secret to success?

Malini: I love what I do, and that helps me in putting in long hours at work. I never tire of getting up and going to work. I look forward to it every morning.

MallikaWho according to you is the best dressed in Bollywood?

Malini: From Bollywood, I think Sonam Kapoor understands fashion well, and also what suits her.

MallikaGold, silver or black?

Malini: Gold and black.

MallikaWhich film would you have liked to design for?

Malini: I would enjoy designing for historic films like Jodha Akhbar or Bajirao Mastani as they would require a lot of interesting research. But, noone can deny the beauty of Yash Raj films and I would love to create the floating chiffons with the pearls.

MallikaYour favourite cocktail look?

Malini: A soft and flowy saree or outfit with a heavily embellished bag, and long earrings.

MallikaElegance or quirky?

Malini: Definitely, elegance.

MallikaWhat's next?

Malini: Oh, there is lots on my plate. Handbags, jewellery and clothing in Malaga. I am also developing a strong pret brand in Pimento which will only be a b to b business with a focus on bags and footwear.
